The main function of UVG, regarding the administration of the ".gt" ccTLD, is one of public service. As such, UVG will serve the community of the Republic of Guatemala as well as the global Internet community. This administration must be judged solely by its performance and the extent to which it satisfies the needs of both the local and Internet communities.

Any matter related to intellectual property rights, or others, for trademarks and/or names registered as domain names, or parts thereof, are outside the responsibility of UVG.

UVG will publish on its website the policies and procedures that will guide the registration and administration of domain names so that the operation is completely transparent.

UVG will be equitable and fair with all qualified applicants wishing to request domain names. Specifically, the same rules will apply to all requests and they will be processed without any discrimination whatsoever.

The domain names to be requested must fall under one of the following established subdomains:

• .gt - (open)
• .com.gt - (open)
• .org.gt - (open)
• .net.gt - (open)
• .ind.gt - (open)
• .edu.gt* - (closed) for educational institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and, in the case of higher education institutions, recognized by the Superior Private Education Council (CEPS).
• .gob.gt* - (closed) for dependents of the Guatemalan government.
• .mil.gt* - (closed) for Armed Forces entities of Guatemala.

* The subdomains .edu.gt, .gob.gt and .mil.gt are closed, and the applicant must prove their institution's affiliation to apply for one of them. Only one closed domain name per institution will be delegated free of charge. Any additional domain name will have the same fee as a .com.gt domain name.

If an applicant believes that their requested name does not fit these, they may request the opening of a new subdomain, and the case will be studied to determine if it deserves to be added to this list.

UVG cannot register domain names under generic top-level domains (gTLD) such as .com, .net, .edu, etc. For this, it is necessary for the applicant to approach an entity authorized by IANA/ICANN.

To register a domain name, the applicant must accept the established Terms of Service. For more information, consult our registration procedure.

Domain names are not sold; they are delegated to an entity or person for a renewable period. Therefore, they cannot, and should not, be considered the property of the applicant.

UVG recognizes that many entities will have the need, and/or the desire, to reserve a domain name without it being put into operation. In this case, the procedure will be the same as the one indicated under Procedures, including the payment. It simply won't be active until required by the applicant.

UVG, in compliance with standard recognized policies for handling domain names, will safeguard the information provided by applicants. However, for the proper functioning of name resolution systems and WHOIS systems, the following information will be made available to the general public:

• Domain Name.
• Name of the entity or person that requested it.
• Names, phone numbers, and emails of the Administrative and Technical contacts.
• List of name servers.

The policies proposed by WIPO and ICANN to prevent access to lists of registered Domain Names were adopted. Therefore, searches can only be performed for individual domain names.

The lone exception to this policy will be when a court order is received.

UVG, in its capacity as the Registry of Domain Names for the .gt ccTLD, is not empowered to and cannot evaluate, review, or investigate the rights that every applicant/holder has to use or register any domain name in the .gt ccTLD.

For this reason, UVG, as a part of the Internet Domain Name system, has adopted the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy approved by (ICANN).

ICANN keeps a list of Arbitration and Mediation Centers cleared to administer disputes related to Internet domain name registrations. Considering the simplicity they provide in working with the Spanish language, UVG has arranged with WIPO to serve as its Arbitration and Mediation Center for managing disputes unraveled within the .gt ccTLD Internet domain, see the Dispute Resolution Policy of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

Any other dispute connected to an Internet domain name registration filed under the .gt ccTLD may be worked out by the involved parties through a competent Judge according to the provisions of the inner Internet domain name service, or natively through arbitration or conciliation.

UVG is committed to properly shielding all the registry's data against damage or loss downfalls. It will do this by leveraging the best available technology meant for such purposes.

UVG sets aside the right to amend or modify these policies at any possible moment. Users should peruse these policies fairly often, seeing as they are subject to them, alongside any possible modifications made respectively.

Alterations to these policies are solid as of the given date, and time, of their inception in the https://www.gt website. The sole exception falls upon the modifications to the Dispute Resolution Policy, being definitive thirty (30) days past their establishment upon this given website.
